BibleWorks 10 is not supported for Windows XP.  If CDs/DVDs will not install normally for BibleWorks 9 and earlier versions, the following procedure will guide you in the process of copying the contents of the BibleWorks Program Discs to a folder that you create on your hard drive and then use the files that have been copied to your hard drive to successfully install BibleWorks. Insert your Program Disc 1 into your CD/DVD rom drive and dismiss the prompt to install the program, then proceed with the procedure indicated below.

1. Create a temporary folder on your computer's hard drive.

I. Open My Computer (also known as the Windows Explorer) and click on the Folders button.

II. The My Computer window will change in the following manner that provides two panes to work with. In the left-hand pane, click on the icon for the C drive.

III. On the menu click on FILE | NEW | FOLDER

  • A "New Folder" will be created. Rename the new folder by typing temp (for your own easy recognition and to signal that this folder can be deleted when you no longer need it) where the highlighted New Folder title appears. If New Folder is no longer highlighted, you can right click on it and choose Rename to allow you to rename it.
  •

    2. Insert the BibleWorks Program Disc #1 into your computer's CD-ROM / DVD-ROM.

    • When the Install / Reconfigure screen appears choose Cancel.

    3. Copy the Program Disc 1 files to the temp folder.

    I. Copy the contents of the Program Disc.

The following capital letters identify portions of the screenshot below:

    • A. Click on the icon for the CD/DVD drive on the left pane so that the drive is highlighted (in the screenshot below it is drive D:)
    • B. Its contents will display in the right pane.
    • C. Click Edit on the main menu at the top.
    • D. Click Select All (the contents of the right pane will be highlighted as shown below).

II. Paste the contents of the Program Disc that you just copied into the temp folder.

    • Return to the left pane of the window and click on the C drive so that the title "Local Disk (C:)" is highlighted like this.

  • A. Click on the folder icon next to the folder named temp .
  • B. Click on Edit and choose Paste to copy the files from the Program Disc to the folder named temp.
  •

III. The last step initiated the process of copy the contents of a Program Disc to the folder that you named temp. You should now see a window like this that indicates the files are being copied:

    4. Repeat the process that is indicated in step 3.I-III for the additional Program Discs that you have for your version of BibleWorks.

    • Please be sure to copy the contents of each disk into the one folder you named temp. Do not create additional folders inside this folder for each of the discs, the installation files must all be located in one folder.
    • Since some filenames for files are the same on each disc, you will be prompted that some filenames already exist, and asked whether you wish to overwrite the existing file. Click YES or YES TO ALL each time you receive this prompt.

IMPORTANT!!! If you have BibleWorks 7 and are undertaking this procedure to install it. do not copy the Modules Disc into this temporary folder. It also has a setup.exe file, and will overwrite the setup file for the BibleWorks 7 installation.

    5. Install BibleWorks from the folder named temp.

    • When you have finished copying all of the discs' content into the folder temp then click on the temp folder icon. You may eject the last disc from your CD/DVD rom drive.
    • Find and double click the file named setup.exe to begin the BibleWorks installation. If your computer is not set to show the file extension .exe the file may appear like it is displayed in the following screenshot.

    6. The BibleWorks installation will begin after you click Setup.exe, click on Install/Reconfigure to start the installation from the files in the temp folder.

    • Navigate through the installation process by using the BibleWorks Installation Program reading the instructions and clicking Next when needed as pictured below.

  • Note: If you choose a custom installation, make sure you do not uncheck any of the items that are already checked for you in the following screen entitled Base Installation Components. One can add more items from the list, but those already checked should not be unchecked.
  •

Restart your computer as prompted at the end of the process. Open the program and activate it. If you have difficulty activating by Internet, see the instructions here.
