This technique is helpful if BibleWorks crashes and you get a message like, "BibleWorks has stopped working. Windows will check for a solution".  (If you are on a Mac, please go to our related article for this kind of error.)

If this occurs just after you installed BibleWorks 9, click here for alternative instructions.

To remedy this error, please do the following:

1. Restart your computer.

2. Please download the zip file from this location to your Desktop:  http://www.bibleworks.com/support/et7br/bw900upd.zip

3. Copy the contents to the BibleWorks 9 folder. To do so: right click on the zip file and choose Extract all.

           a. In the Extraction Wizard, click Browse, then in the Select a destination window, navigate to the BibleWorks 9 folder that is likely located in your Program Files or Program Files (x86) folder so that it is highlighted and click OK.

b. With the BibleWorks 9 folder chosen as the directory for the files to be extracted, click Next>

c. Use the option to copy and replace the files of the same name that you are extracting to the BibleWorks 9 folder.

4. Check to see if the program will start properly. If it does not, delete the bw900.ini and context files from the BibleWorks 9 folder.  Deleting the bw900.ini file and context files will reset your former customizable display settings back to their default values. Please use the instructions in the following FAQ to access the BibleWorks Troubleshooting Options menu: http://kb.bibleworks.com/index.php?/article/AA-02849. Then choose the options to ”Delete the BW900.INI”, “Rebuild Version Data” and “Delete Context Files". Click the button to "Perform the selected options and run BibleWorks."

5. Run BibleWorks 9.

6. Once you are able to run BibleWorks successfully, in BibleWorks go to Help | BibleWorks on the Internet | Check for updates and apply the BibleWorks Executable update. Other updates may be applied after you do so.
