This message most often follows a BibleWorks crash with an error of the form "BibleWorks has stopped working.  Windows will check for a solution."  The cause is most frequently corruption of the BibleWorks main program, bw1000.exe.

To remedy this error, please do the following:

1. Close all programs and restart your computer.

2. Delete the BibleWorks initialization file, bw1000.ini and bw1000.swc file using the instructions below.  When you delete these files, it will reset your former customizable display settings back to their default values (if you do this manually and do not use the options menu mentioned below, please be sure to also delete the bw1000.swc file from the BibleWorks 10\init folder):

Please use the instructions in the following FAQ to access the BibleWorks Troubleshooting Options menu: http://kb.bibleworks.com/index.php?/article/AA-02849

Then choose the options to ”Delete the BW1000.INI”, "Reset BW1000.INI Folders" and “Delete Context Files". Click the button to Perform the selected options and run BibleWorks.

3.. Run BibleWorks 10. If BibleWorks 10 does not run properly, run the bwupdate file using the following instructions.

4. Click Start | File Explorer or press the Windows logo key + e on your keyboard (Win + E). This opens a File Explorer window, navigate to the folder where BibleWorks 10 is installed. Unless you originally chose an alternative location, it will be in C:\Program Files (x86)\BibleWorks 10.  In the BibleWorks 10 folder find and run the file named bwupdate or it may have the full file name bwupdate.exe by double clicking on the file.

5. You should see a window like this. Read the instructions in the window and click the button to update. The program will go through a series of steps in updating the program. When the last line indicates “Finish –Click on CANCEL to exit. Click on the Cancel button.

6. If the program crashes, close the Windows error message/s (BibleWorks ... has stopped working)..

7. You may get an error message indicating. "The last time BibleWorks was run it had an abnormal termination. A copy of the latest BibleWorks crash report has been saved in..." followed by a location where you can find a file named bw1000_lastcrash.txt.

8. Click OK and attempt to run BibleWorks again.
