How Do I Update the BibleWorks 10 Executable Without Opening BibleWorks?

The main program file in BibleWorks 10 can be updated without opening the program and using the BibleWorks Updates window. This can be helpful if you are having difficulty opening BibleWorks.

Windows Instructions

1. Close all programs and restart your computer. Make sure you have a good connection to the Internet.

2. Using Start | File Explorer, navigate to the folder where BibleWorks 10 is installed. Unless you original chose an alternative location, it will be in C:\Program Files (x86)\BibleWorks 10.  In the BibleWorks 10 folder find and run the file named bwupdate.exe by double clicking on it.

3. You should see a window like this. Read the instructions in the window and click the button to update. The program will go through a series of steps in updating the program. When the last line indicates “Finish –Click on CANCEL to exit. Click on the Cancel button.

4. Run BibleWorks as you would normally.

5. You may see a window that looks like this. Click the OK button and proceed with using BibleWorks. Do not send the bw1000_lastcrash.txt file to us at this time. BibleWorks should run normally.

Mac Instructions

Follow the steps below to update the bw1000.exe file.
  1. First, ensure you are running the most recent Mac Installer dmg: How Do I Update the BibleWorks Mac Installer?
  2. Then, in macOS, open a Finder window.
  3. Open your Applications folder.
  4. Open the BibleWorks app while holding down the Shift key. Though the program may crash, the BibleWorks menu will appear at the top of the screen next to the Apple icon.
  5. Choose Run Command. In the Run Command window, click the Browse button.
  6. Open the Program Files folder there and the BibleWorks 10 folder within it.
  7. Find the bwupdate.exe file in the BibleWorks 10 folder, click on it, and click the Open button.
  8. In the Run Command window, click the Run button.
  9. This will run a utility program that downloads the current BibleWorks executable files.
  10. Follow the instructions in the window that opens. Click the Update button. Information will appear that files are copying. When it is complete it will instruct you to click the Cancel button to exit. 
  11. Run BibleWorks.
