Can I Move My Copy of BibleWorks to Another Computer?

AA-02887

This question is occasionally posed when one wants to have a copy of BibleWorks on a new computer, but does not have access to the installation media.  (The installation media may be in storage or has been lost or damaged.)  The question is whether one may copy the files of the installed program on one computer, which will then be put into a folder on the target computer.

This proposed measure, however, will not produce the desired results for a number of reasons.  For one, the BibleWorks Setup program writes values to the Windows registry that are used when the program actually runs on the computer.  If the files are simply copied from the folder of one computer to the corresponding folder on the target computer, those registry values will not be put into place.  This will eventually lead to an error condition for one reason or another.

For BibleWorks 8 and 9 the act of copying the files so as to move the program will fail because of the activation.  The installation to a given computer used information relative to that computer to activate the program.  When an attempt is made to run the program on the second computer, the activation will be detected as invalid.

In conclusion, therefore, the BibleWorks program should actually be INSTALLED to the target computer from the installation media.  If media for the version is unavailable, replacement media can be obtained at a nominal cost for a number of versions, from BibleWorks 5 onward.  Click here to visit our website for more information and/or to place your order.
